DAB Digital Radio is transforming the way people listen to music. With a digital radio it is possible to pick up easily double, and sometimes many more, the number of stations available on FM. DAB or Digital Audio Broadcasting will certainly leave conventional "analogue" broadcasting redundant due to its far superior sound quality (near CD quality) and ease of use. It is widely anticipated that analogue radio will be switched off entirely before 2015 so you have time but why delay?!
DAB Digital Radios are currently mainly portable devices although there are also personal walkman models, DAB clock radios, and in car DAB digital radio/CD stereo head units on the market. As well as the more popular brand names such as Sony and Panasonic there are also great quality models by other manufacturers like Pure, Roberts, Morphy Richards, Sharp and Intempo.
Unlike analogue radios, DAB Digital Radios work by searching for a radio station by name rather than frequency (ie you would tune into "BBC Radio 1" on the LCD text dsiplay screen rather than "97.9FM"). This means there is no re-tuning once a station goes out of range and there is also no interference like hissing and crackling on a DAB radio. With stations including BBC Radio 1, 2, 3, 4 and Five Live, Capital Gold, Century FM, Classic FM, Galaxy, Heart, Kerrang, Kiss, Magic, Q, Saga, Virgin Radio amongst hundreds of others you will be spoit for choice with DAB.
